When Freewheel was just a twinkle in a grain of barley’s eye, we paid a visit to several UK breweries.

We drank some great beers and got key advice, much of which shaped what we are today. Here’s a nod

Ironbridge Brewery & Wrekin Brewing Company, Wellington, Shropshire, England
David Goldingay, head brewer and owner of Ironbridge Brewery, and now Wrekin Brewery Company, has been an inspirational help in providing both brewing tips and great recipes.
He even paid us a visit during SF Beer Week in 2013 to brew up a storm and educate us all a little more and how to brew something special. We regularly serve Wenlock Stout and Ironbridge Gold based on Dave’s recipes.

Green Jack Brewery, Lowestoft, Suffolk, England
If you travel to the most eastern point in the UK, you’ll find yourself in the seaside town of Lowestoft, and if your lucky enough, you’ll be having a fine pint of Green Jack Beer.
Tim Dunford, who is one of the brewery’s founders, is an expert in putting together some of the best beers we’ve tasted, as born out by the great number of awards and accolades he has received. Tim has been a huge help in working with us on some great recipes including our tasty Orange Wheat. Cheers Tim!

Bank Top Brewery, Bolton, Lancashire, England
Back in 2012, on a visit to see our nearly completed brewery at Johnson’s Brewery Design shop in Bury, England, Vincent took us out for a jaunt to see some of his stunning welding work at Bank Top Brewery in Bolton. It was there we met top man Dave Sweeney, who founded Bank Top back in 1995. One thing lead to another, and before we knew it, we were leaning on the bar at the “Brewery Tap” pub one of two pubs Bank Top own. Well we had a revelation in a pint glass that day, in the name of Bank Top’s Dark Mild.
A truly delicious beer, in a style that is rarely found these days. Well Dave has kindly provided us the recipe for this great beer, and we are now happy to brew our version of “Bank Top Dark Mild” at Freewheel. By the way, Dark Mild won Gold in its category at the 2014 Great British Beer Festival. Congratulations Bank Top!
